So, to raise both funding and awareness, I'm thinking, because of my artistic abilities and passion for design, that I could start selling Star Trek themed shirts for the Starfleet Initiative!
Anyone have suggestions and/or questions?

Excellent idea! Maybe when carrying out charity or community work we could wear them so people know that we're from a collective? Of course design-wise it would need careful consideration, wouldn't want to tread on any copyrighted toes  |

And of course we would have to figure out how many to make at the start and if we're making them ourselves or if we plan on doing it through a place like CustomInk or something like that. Doing it ourselves would be far cheaper but less likely to look professional. However doing it through a company will cost more money but be more presentable. There are discounts for doing them in bulk so there's the question of how many and design.
I think first we do have to look into a design and it would have to be thoroughly researched. We could design a sort of logo of sorts for the Initiative or even specific to the Outreach program itself. And yeah copyright will be our most major hurdle.

On my Facebook page www.facebook.com/destiny.thetford?ref=tn_tnmn immediately on my wall there are two pictures of my first T-shirt to see if you like. That was from me doing it myself. The shirt cost four bucks and the paint cost five, but I was left with more paint than needed. I got these supplies at Johann's (I think that's how you spell it) and used old cardboard boxes for stencils (that I also made myself). Of course, we will have to come up with our own personal design logo. What do you think that should be? |

As far as a logo goes, I tried looking at copyright laws concerning Star Trek symbols but I haven't found anything useful to me or it's got a bunch of legalese I don't understand. We might want to consider designing a completely original logo for the sake of at LEAST the Outreach Program and possibly even the Starfleet Initiative. At the heart of it the ideals are based on Gene Roddenberry's vision, and the Star Trek recognition will help gain support, however if we intend on having this be an actual thing, I think we should try to make it a thing of its own. Also we need to look into seeing if the word Starfleet itself is copyrighted or not. I don't want this whole project to shut down because of some legal issue about the name or anything like that. We might want to talk to Bianca (yellow-shirted-chekov) about it and see what she thinks since this will affect everything.
